2017 NBA Re-Draft

If it weren't for the Coronavirus outbreak, the 2020 NBA playoffs would be starting in little over a week. Instead, we are left with no basketball and a lot of spare time in our homes. That's why its a good time to take a gander at the 2017 draft class and see how the draft would've played out with what we know three years onward.

All draft day trades will be rescinded and team needs at the time of the draft will be taken into account.

1. Philadelphia 76ers (Via BKN)

Jayson Tatum - Originally Taken 3rd | Original Pick: Markelle Fultz

2020 Stats: 23.6 PPG, 7.1 RPG, 2.9 APG, 1.4 SPG, 45 FG%, 2.8 3PM, 40 3P%

Jayson Tatum Has Crossed the Threshold into NBA Stardom | Bleacher ...

This season, Jayson Tatum blossomed into one of the NBA's most skill savvy players and appears on pace to be a perennial all-star moving forwards. As a premier two-way forward, Tatum would fit seamlessly next to Philadelphia's stars in Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid as he would not only provide much-needed floor spacing and the ability to close games à la Jimmy Butler, but he would also make Philadelphia an even more stifling defensive team.

2. Los Angeles LakersDonovan Mitchell - Originally Taken 13th | Original Pick: Lonzo Ball

2020 Stats: 24.2 PPG, 4.4 RPG, 4.2, APG, 1.0 SPG, 45 FG%, 2.5 3PM, 36 3P%

Utah Jazz: Pressure for a title rests on Donovan Mitchell's shoulders

The first thought that comes to mind with the Lakers taking Mitchell instead of Ball, is to whether LeBron still signs in Los Angeles and whether Los Angeles go forth and still make the trade for Anthony Davis. Assuming the King joins Mitchell and company in Cali, Mitchell would provide high volume scoring in a robin-esque role to LeBron's batman.

3. Boston Celtics (Via SAC)

Bam Adebayo - Originally Taken 14th | Original Pick: Jayson Tatum

2020 Stats: 16.2 PPG, 10.5 RPG, 5.1 APG, 1.2 SPG, 1.3 BPG, 57 FG%

Bam Adebayo After Heat's Win vs. Giannis, Bucks: 'We Can Play with ...

With Jayson Tatum no longer on the board to retake, the Celtics go big and take Bam Adebayo as their eventual Al Horford replacement. The first-time all-star improved dramatically this past season and showed to be one of basketball's most versatile big men. Adebayo's selfless playstyle would fit perfectly in Brad Steven's offense and his hardnosed play would make him a Beantown favourite.

4. Phoenix Suns

De'Aaron Fox - Originally Taken 5th | Original Pick: Josh Jackson

2020 Stats: 20.4 PPG, 4.0 RPG, 6.8 APG, 1.4 SPG, 48 FG%, 1.0 3PM, 31 3P%

Sacramento Kings Season Preview: It's De'Aaron Fox's Time To Shine

In this redraft, Phoenix lands who I originally wanted them to pick in De'Aaron Fox. Fox would be able to share the playmaking load with Booker and be a cornerstone piece to Phoenix's rebuild.  A backcourt of Devin Booker and De'Aaron Fox would be electrifying and reminiscent of John Wall and Bradley Beal.

5. Sacramento Kings (Via PHI)

John Collins - Originally Taken 19th | Original Pick: De'Aaron Fox

2020 Stats: 21.6 PPG, 10.1 RPG, 1.5 APG, 1.6 BPG, 58 FG%, 1.4 3PM, 40 3P%

John Collins Trade Rumors: Multiple Teams 'Feeling Out' Hawks ...

With Phoenix snagging De'Aaron Fox, Sacramento land one of the league's most underrated up-and-comers. At the time, bigs weren't seen as an area of need but in hindsight, I think Sacramento would much prefer the offensive production and energy of Collins over the mediocrity of Willie Cauley-Stein and Skal Labissiere.

6. Orlando Magic

Lonzo Ball - Originally Taken 2nd | Original Pick: Jonathan Isaac

2020 Stats: 12.4 PPG, 6.2 RPG, 7.0 APG, 1.4 SPG, 41 FG%, 2.5 3PM, 38 FG%

NBA preview: Change of pace for Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram - Los ...

LaVar Ball doesn't get his way in this redraft as his son Lonzo finds himself is Orlando rather than the city of angels. The point guard position has been an area of need for the Magic since the Dwight Howard era and there is no better player at pick number six to fill this role than premier floor general - Lonzo Ball. While his scoring prowess is still a work in progress, Ball's impact as an adept playmaker and intelligent on-ball defender warrants him worthy of remaining in the top half of the lottery.

7. Minnesota Timberwolves

Jonathan Isaac - Originally Taken 6th | Original Pick: Lauri Markkanen

2020 Stats: 12.0 PPG, 6.9 RPG, 1.4 APG, 1.6 APG, 2.4 BPG, 46 FG%, 33 3P%

Jonathan Isaac Out Two Months With Severe Knee Injury | SLAM

Despite having his season cut short due to suffering a posterior lateral corner injury and a medial bone contusion, Isaac made strides this year and proved his worth as a high lottery pick. The 6'11" forward looks to be a future all-defensive team member and such a player would be a perfect fit next to Karl-Anthony Towns who's defense has been a topic of criticism since he came into the league.

8. New York Knicks
Jarrett Allen - Originally Taken 22nd | Original Pick: Frank Ntilikina

2020 Stats: 10.6 PPG, 9.5 RPG, 1.3 APG, 0.6 SPG, 1.3 BPG, 65 FG%

Nets' Jarrett Allen improving in every facet of game, except one

Jarrett Allen doesn't have far to travel in this re-draft as he leaves the Barclays Center for Madison Square Garden. If it weren't for having Kristaps Porzingis at the time, Lauri Markkanen would be the pick here. However, Allen would complement the floor spacing and sub-par rebounding of Porzingis much better.

9. Dallas Mavericks

Lauri Markkanen - Originally Taken 7th | Original Pick: Dennis Smith Jr

2020 Stats: 14.7 PPG, 6.3 RPG, 1.5 APG, 0.5 BPG, 43 FG%, 2.2 3PM, 34 3P%

Why an active Lauri Markkanen is a more effective player for the ...

With Dirk Nowitzki on the way out, Lauri Markkanen enters as the Maverick's next great sharpshooting big man. While Markkanen may not be quite the player that Nowitzki was, Lauri is for sure no slouch. Markkanen has had a down year with the Bulls but in his 2019 campaign, Markkanen showed off his stellar shooting touch alongside a surprising knack for rebounding the ball.

10. Sacramento Kings (Via NOP)

Markelle Fultz - Originally Taken 1st | Original Pick: Zach Collins

2020 Stats: 12.1 PPG, 3.3 RPG, 5.2 APG, 1.3 SPG, 47 FG%, 0.5 3PM, 25 3P%

Markelle Fultz on Living Up to Expectations and a Persevering ...

The former number one selection has had an unfortunate start to his NBA career. If it weren't for his nerve issues, chances are he'd be picked closer to where he was originally selected. This season, Fultz showed glimpses of stardom and whether he reaches his ceiling or not relies on Fultz gaining consistency and finding the jump shot that made him so deadly in college.

11. Charlotte Hornets

Zach Collins - Originally Taken 10th | Original Pick: Malik Monk

2019 Stats: 6.6 PPG, 4.2 RPG, 0.9 APG, 0.9 BPG, 47 FG%, 0.5 3PM, 33 3P%

Poised and polished: Zach Collins ready to play key role with ...

Collins has played a total of three games so far in the 2020 season but before injury appeared to be on pace to give Blazers starting centre Jusuf Nurkic a run for his money when it came to minutes. Collins has impressive defensive potential and has shown an ability to stretch his game out to the three-point line.

12. Detroit Pistons
Luke Kennard - Originally Taken 12th | Original Pick: Luke Kennard

2020 Stats: 15.8 PPG, 3.5 RPG, 4.1 APG, 0.4 SPG, 44 FG%, 2.6 3PM, 40 3P%

Pistons in Review: Luke Kennard | Detroit Pistons

Some things are just meant to be and apparently, one of those things is Luke Kennard playing for the Detroit Pistons. Kennard had his share of injury woes this season but when healthy, Kennard can be a knockdown shooter from deep and a reliable secondary playmaker.

13. Denver Nuggets
OG Anunoby - Originally Taken 23rd | Original Pick: Donovan Mitchell

2020 Stats: 10.7 PPG, 5.4 RPG, 1.6 APG, 1.4 SPG, 51 FG%, 1.3 3PM, 38 3P%

How Good can OG Anunoby be in Year 3? - Mohamed - Medium

Denver got a lot of flack for flipping the original 13th pick in Donovan Mitchell for Trey Lyles and Tyler Lydon. However, in this redraft, they stay at 13 and take 3&D specialist OG Anunoby. Anunoby would be a perfect fit in Denver's young core, playing off of superstar centre Nikola Jokic as a spot-up shooter and cutter, and manning the perimeter defense alongside Gary Harris.

14. Miami Heat
Kyle Kuzma - Originally Taken 27th | Original Pick: Bam Adebayo

2020 Stats: 12.5 PPG, 4.5 RPG, 1.3 APG, 0.4 SPG, 43 FG%, 1.3 3PM, 30 3P%

Potential Trade Packages and Landing Spots for Lakers' Kyle Kuzma ...

Kuzma may be averaging career lows in almost every category as one of LeBron's lackeys, but that doesn't take away from his ability to put the ball in the basket. Kuz's off-court style and flamboyance may fit Miami better than his playstyle but nevertheless, Kuz's talents as a 3-level shot-creator in the frontcourt make him a valuable asset at pick 14.

15. Portland Trailblazers
Dillon Brooks - Originally Taken 45th | Original Pick: Justin Jackson

2020 Stats: 15.7 PPG, 3.3 RPG, 2.0 APG, 0.9 SPG, 40 FG%, 2.0 3PM, 37 3P%

Dillon Brooks on the Memphis Grizzlies: 'We have a super friendship'

Although Portland has two of the league's deadliest marksmen in Damian Lillard and C.J. McCollum, in the new-age of basketball, you can never get enough shooting. Portland has had their fair share of wing players but none have stood out. Brooks would fill Portland's hole on the wing and provide extra floor-spacing and youth.

16. Chicago Bulls
Thomas Bryant - Originally Taken 42nd | Original Pick: Justin Patton

2020 Stats: 12.1 PPG, 6.8 RPG, 1.9 APG, 0.9 BPG, 60 FG%, 0.6 3PM, 41 3P%

Thomas Bryant might be turning into one of the NBA's best screen ...

Chicago originally traded this pick alongside Jimmy Butler to the Timberwolves in return for Zach LaVine, Kris Dunn and the pick the would be Lauri Markkanen. However, in this scenario in which they don't, Chicago takes Thomas Bryant to back up Pau Gasol and Taj Gibson until it's time for him to step into the starting role.

17. Milwaukee Bucks
Josh Hart - Originally Taken 30th | Original Pick: D.J. Wilson

2020 Stats: 10.2 PPG, 6.5 RPG, 1.6 APG, 1.0 SPG, 42 FG%, 1.9 3PM, 34 3P%

Hart and Soul: Josh Hart has emerged as New Orleans Pelicans best ...

Hart is one of the most lovable players in the league and who better to leave him hanging than league MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo. Jokes aside, Hart's 3&D playstyle is a perfect fit in Milwaukee and such a role player would complement Giannis perfectly.

18. Indiana Pacers
Monte Morris - Originally Taken 51st | Original Pick: T.J. Leaf

2020 Stats: 8.4 PPG, 1.7 RPG, 3.5 APG, 0.8 SPG, 46 FG%, 0.8 3PM, 38 3P%

Denver Nuggets: 3 goals for Monte Morris in 2019-20

Monte Morris is well-known for his playmaking efficiency as turnovers come far and few between for the ball-handling wiz. While Darren Collison and Cory Joseph are alright NBA players, in 2017, a selection like Monte Morris in hindsight appears much more appealing.

19. Atlanta Hawks

Derrick White - Originally Taken 29th | Original Pick: John Collins

2020 Stats: 10.4 PPG, 3.2 RPG, 3.4 APG, 0.9 BPG, 46 FG%, 0.9 3PM, 36 3P%

Derrick White is the two-way guard every team wishes it had

There are three guarantees in life: death, taxes and Spurs draft picks being productive pros. White's hardnosed play and well-roundedness as a combo-guard make him a plug-and-play player who would fit anywhere he plays. White would be able to help share the playmaking load with Dennis Schroder and eventually Trae Young.

20. Portland Trailblazers (Via MEM)
Isaiah Hartenstein - Originally Taken 43rd | Original Pick: Harry Giles

2020 Stats: 4.7 PPG, 3.9 RPG, 0.8 APG, 0.4 SPG, 0.5 BPG, 66 FG%

Should the Houston Rockets make Hartenstein off limits in trade talks?

Hartenstein spent the beginning of his career with Houston's G-League affiliate and with Houston's small-ball retool, Hartenstein hasn't seen the NBA minutes that he may have seen if he were playing elsewhere. The high-energy big would make for a serviceable backup to Jusuf Nurkic and could potentially play alongside him if necessary.

21. Oklahoma City Thunder
Malik Monk - Originally Taken 11th | Original Pick: Terrance Ferguson

2020 Stats: 10.3 PPG, 2.9 RPG, 2.1 APG, 0.5 SPG, 43 FG%, 1.1 3PM, 28 3P%

With Indefinite Suspension, Hornets' Malik Monk Becomes Latest ...

Shooting on the wing has always been an area in need of addressing for the Thunder. Monk is a much better shooter than his 28% clip from deep suggests and would've probably developed differently had he played in Oklahoma rather than Charlotte.

22. Brooklyn Nets (Via WAS)
Frank Ntilikina - Originally Taken 8th | Original Pick: Jarrett Allen

2020 Stats: 6.3 PPG, 2.1 RPG, 3.0 APG, 0.9 SPG, 39 FG%, 0.8 3PM, 32 3P%

Should the Knicks extend Frank Ntilikina or sign a free agent option?

While Jarrett Allen jumps up to pick 8 from 22, Frank Ntilikina falls from 8 to 22 and finds himself playing in Brooklyn rather than MSG. Ntilikina was a known project the day he got drafted and despite his inefficiency and passive play, his defensive potential upholds his status as an enticing young player.

23. Toronto Raptors (Via LAC)
Chris Boucher - Originally Undrafted | Original Pick: OG Anunoby

2020 Stats: 6.3 PPG, 4.4 RPG, 0.4 APG, 1.0 BPG, 46 FG%, 0.5 3PM, 28 3P%

Raptors Forward Chris Boucher Apologizes For Breaking Team ...

Originally going undrafted, Boucher worked his way into the league and picked up a G-League MVP award along the way. Rather than signing Boucher on a two-way contract, Toronto picks the late-bloomer up at pick number 23. With Boucher's rapid development, I wouldn't be surprised if Boucher continues to work his way up this list.

24. Utah Jazz
Dennis Smith Jr - Originally Taken 9th | Original Pick: Tyler Lydon

2020 Stats: 5.5 PPG, 2.3 RPG, 2.9 APG, 0.8 SPG, 34 FG%, 0.5 3PM, 30 3P%

Dennis Smith Jr. has new Knicks perspective after tragedy

Smith Jr appeared to be a promising young piece to the Mavericks core in his rookie season but the arrival of Luka Doncic derailed his growth as he now struggles to see court time on a disappointing Knicks team. While there still is time for him to turn his career around, his inability to earn minutes in New York doesn't bode well for future success.

25. Orlando Magic (Via TOR)

Terrance Ferguson - Originally Taken 21st | Original Pick: Anzejs Pasecniks

2020 Stats: 4.2 PPG, 1.5 RPG, 0.9 APG, 0.5 SPG, 37 FG%, 0.9 3PM, 30 3P%

Terrance Ferguson - The Athletic

Basketball skills aside, a dunking duo of Aaron Gordon and Terrance Ferguson would be quite the show in Orlando. Ferguson's shooting consistency hasn't been the greatest but that may be due to him not being featured much in OKC's offense. In a situation like Orlando, with more touches, Ferguson may be more likely to find consistency in his shooting.

26. Portland Trailblazers (Via CLE)
Frank Jackson - Originally Taken 31st | Original Pick: Caleb Swanigan

2020 Stats: 5.6 PPG, 1.4 RPG, 0.8 APG, 0.3 SPG, 39 FG%, 0.8 3PM, 33 3P%

To Be Quite Frank, Jackson is Looking Like an NBA Player - The ...

Frank Jackson is coming off of a great season with the New Orleans Pelicans and looks to be on the rise. The former Blue Devil showed that he can provide a scoring punch off the bench and light it up from deep. Jackson would not only be able to backup Damian Lillard and C.J. McCollum, but also be able to play alongside them.

27. Los Angeles Lakers (Via HOU)
Josh Jackson - Originally Taken 4th | Original Pick: Kyle Kuzma

2020 Stats: 10.4 PPG, 3.2 RPG, 1.7 APG, 1.0 SPG, 44 FG%, 1.3 3PM, 32 3P%

Memphis Grizzlies are proving developmental abilities with Josh ...

It's been a fall from grace for the former Suns tank-job prize. After a troublesome start to his young career, Jackson has found himself bouncing between the Grizzlies and their G-League affiliate the Hustle. While he's been relatively inefficient, Jackson still has the physical tools and talents to develop into a productive high-energy player.

28. Los Angeles Lakers (Via BOS)
Harry Giles - Originally Taken 20th | Original Pick: Tony Bradley

2020 Stats: 7.0 PPG, 4.2 RPG, 1.3 APG, 0.6 SPG, 0.4 BPG, 56 FG%

Harry Giles is a Sleeping Giant - Sactown Royalty

Injuries have been the topic of discussion when it comes to Harry Giles. While a promising young big, injuries have kept him off the court for nearly half of his professional career and his value as an NBA player going forwards will be determined by whether or not he can stay on the court.

29. San Antonio Spurs
Justin Jackson - Originally Taken 15th | Original Pick: Derrick White

2020 Stats: 5.7 PPG, 2.4 RPG, 0.8 APG, 0.2 SPG, 40 FG%, 0.8 3PM, 30 3P%

Dallas Mavericks: Justin Jackson has fallen out of the rotation

Jackson eventually fell out of Dallas' rotation this past season but there is still hope that Jackson can develop into a decent role player on the wing. Had he developed in San Antonio rather than Sacramento, Jackson's career arc may have been very different.

30. Utah Jazz (Via GSW)
Anzejs Pasecniks - Originally Taken 25th | Original Pick: Josh Hart

2020 Stats: 6.0 PPG, 4.1 RPG, 0.7 APG, 0.3 SPG, 0.5 BPG, 53 FG%

Wizards sign center Anzejs Pasecniks to two-way contract ...

It took Pasecniks longer than expected to come stateside as he didn't make his NBA debut till this season with Washington. Despite Pasecniks not having the same level of experience or production that other players available in this range have, it is the same potential that Pasecniks displayed pre-draft that justifies his selection here to the Utah Jazz.
